We had such a wonderful experience at La Toppa. The food was outstanding. The patriarch of the family came by our table several times and was thrilled that I speak Italian (at least, I'm learning!). He then gave us great recommendations for what to eat and where to stay when we return. The restaurant was full of friends and family enjoying their Sunday meal together and it felt like a warm, friendly atmosphere.

A restaurant with unforgettable cuisine. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We haven't had such delicious truffle ravioli and tiramisu anywhere in Italy. A very large selection of wines.

Wat een fijne plek om te eten. Hele aardige eigenaar ( vader en zoon). Vader begint gelijk te vertellen over koningin Beatrix die daar ooit heeft gegeten. Het eten en de wijn waren fantastisch. Een echte aanrader voor als je kleinschalig lokaal wil eten. Arrivederci

Food - 12/10 absolutely fantastic (no really, very good). Didn’t like the older gentleman chasing us out (quite rudely) for siesta time when we hadn’t even finished our wine. We hadn’t been there for more than 1h10. Id expect a michellen recommended place to allow at least 1h30 for a reserved lunch. And were also asked if we wanted starters and we didn’t even have desserts. So bit strange… would still recommend though! (Bit dont book the last available slot before lunch closing time)

Très bon service. Belle ambiance typiquement italienne. Nourriture très bonne bien que le steak florentin était un peu trop cuit.

Has always been great from my first visit in 2000. We always go for the great staples like duck ribbon pappardelle and zuppa inglese. We have tried probably everything over the years and everything has been great. We value the warmth very much too!

We came on 2 days for dinner. 'Team La Troppa' know exactly what to do and how to do it well. Excellent, thank you all.

Once again La Toppa delivered a great experience and meal. Luigi and his family made a great night for us as we arrived from Florence and Pisa airports and met in San Donato for a fabulous, relaxed family-style meal. La Toppa is well worth the visit. You will be very happy with starters thru the 5 fresh pastas and sauces and a meat or two, if you fancy local meat dishes. Oh -- the deserts are super from Super Inglese to Tiramisu! Very good Tuscan cuisine, rich wine list, kind and hospitality staff. My personal perferences - “ribollita”, “pappardelle d'anatra”, “ravioli al tartufo”. As pairing, test it - Chianti Classico Riserva by Castellare. Enjoy!

Ristorante molto peggiorato rispetto al passato. Mi dispiace perchè ci contavo ma il peggioramento riguarda la qualità oltre che la quantità.Il rapporto qualità prezzo è troppo alto.

Excellent home cooking in good, friendly atmosphere. Pasta is excellent, beef cooked in red wine delicious. The restaurant is located in the beautiful village of San Donato. A great stop if you are in the region.

It was a lovely seat outside and there were lots if flags since there had been a sort of 'Festa'. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was good, but I have to say a little uninteresting. The wine was good, naturalmente!

The quality of the food and the service is far away from the Bib Gourmand level. We were even presented with a miscalculated bill (in favor of the restaurant, of course). Pasta was fairly good, but the second course was a big dissapointment.

Comincio dalle note dolenti, di cui il ristorante è completamente estraneo, ma che aiuteranno i più a non girare a vuoto. Il ristorante è al centro storico di un paese pieno di sensi unici e di zone in cui è difficilissimo trovare parcheggio. In realtà ci sono due parcheggi di cui uno gratuito ma non segnalato, attraversando il centro storico (lo so è interdetto al traffico se non locale ma non sapevamo più letteralmente dove andare) e proseguendo sempre dritto, arrivati ad una macelleria girare subito a sinistra. Ad ogni modo, tutte le peripezie fatte per arrivare, sono ben ripagate dalla qualità della cucina, segnalata anche dalla guida Michelin come testimoniano i tanti adesivi affissi sulla porta d'ingresso. Il locale è semplice, ed è possibile con il bel tempo e la temperatura giusta mangiare anche in giardino, ma le preparazioni sono di alto livello. Tutti ingredienti di prim'ordine, piatti espressi, e tutto fatto in casa a partire dalla pasta. Piatti tipici della tradizione toscana, con una Fiorentina a farla da padrona per chi è amante della carne. Il tutto condito dai racconti del gioviale padrone di casa, che volentieri si intrattiene con gli ospiti e conversa amabilmente, specialmente della sua illustre ospite la regina d'Olanda che alloggia in zona per le vacanze. Insomma una piacevole serata con ottimo cibo e buona compagnia. Da provare assolutamente.

We had missed our 2000 reservation but they were very gracious in accommodating us at 2145. We had pasta with duck sauce and spinach ravioli as primi. Both were excellent. We split roast chicken thighs, with roasted potatoes as the main. Chicken was slightly salty but the potatoes were outstanding. Tiramisu for desert.

We had a lovely dinner for 14 people here. The pastas were a particular hit-all housemade with the ravioli being my personal favorite. The service also made the night very special for us. We were treated like old friends instead of first timers. A highlight of our Tuscan adventure.
