Wonderful service, excellent food, one of the best and most original meals we had in Rome.
Viaggio settle mille miglio per the carciofi guidia. Era stradinario!!
Our second visit was amazing. Great food, wildly entertaining service. Highly recommend for the delicious Jewish specials.
Nonna Betta was a recommendation of our guide in Rome, who was actually born in Italy. He said it is a cute place with original atmosphere. And he was right. It was evening of the 31st of December. The whole area where the restaurant is located breathed with some special festive mood and cosity! We were the 1st guests that evening thus we were welcomed with all the team. Very nice Israel wine followed by delicious fish in a pot for ladies and meat for gentlemen really made our evening. Oh, I forgot about absolutely delicious Nonna Betta starters: grilled artichoke, fried fish, zucchini flowers, cheese etc... Deep gratitude to the chef the choice of sweets - light, melting in mouth and delicious!
Nonna Betta Rome has quite a reputation. When I was doing my itinerary research for my family Europe trip, the restaurant popped out several times. It had the late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain’s stamp of approval and was repeatedly recommended by Katie Parla for its Kosher-style cuisine in Rome’s Jewish Ghetto. The restaurant owner is a Roman Jew and Nonna Betta was actually the name of his grandmother. We decided to make a stopover while we are exploring the Ghetto to refuel for lunch. The place wasn’t tough to find, you just have to look for Anthony Bourdain. Go https://www.aspirantsg.com/nonna-betta-rome/ to read our full review!
We thoroughly enjoyed Nonna Betta. Our server, Michal, was attentive, friendly and made us feel so welcome. The fried Jewish artichoke was so good, I had two of them. I also had the fried cod fish. My husband started with carpaccio of salmon, a very large serving of salmon. He then had the cacio e pepe with chicory. We had a bottle of water and a liter of the house red wine. We finished with a plate of assorted desserts. Everything was so delicious. The total cost of our meal was €57. We were very pleased. We only wish we had more time to come back for another lunch or dinner. We will definitely return on our next trip to Rome.
Confermata la bontà della scelta. Carciofi alla giudia un must. Baccalà alla moda di Nonna Betta una scoperta (con pinoli e pistacchi, cotti al forno e presentato in terrine singole, bollenti! Come è fatto l'intingolo? Latte, farina e …?
The fried artichoke (Carciufo alla Giudia), as you've probably heard, was delicious and the presentation was excellent. They obviously invest a lot in this dish. We split one between two of us but I wish we had gotten one each. The Cheese and Pepper Spaghetti with Chickory (Cacio e Pepe con Cicoria) was very good though not the best I had in Rome. The Easter Lamb special was also quite yummy though I might have liked a little more meat and a little less bone. It came with lightly fried potatoes that were a wee bit salty but had just the right amount of rosemary seasoning. The house Chardonnay was nice and light but nothing impressive. Service was a little rushed compared to other restaurants in Rome. In sum, everything was good but the artichoke was the only thing that really stood out.
